What is Neighbors In Faith?
Neighbors In Faith is a new community initiative of Calvary Lutheran Church. Our mission is to recruit and empower volunteers for service to older adults in their local neighborhoods through existing programs such as RSVP, local senior centers and gov't programs.
Neighbors In Faith also strives to create a faith-based community for older adults for the purpose of fellowship on the south side of Indianapolis. In March of 2007, Calvary hosted the first Neighbors In Faith Older Adult Conference. We had many area churches and denominations represented and many attendees asked that more programs like this be offered.
In July 2007, we hosted a Neighbors In Faith - Celebrate America! event at Calvary. We had over 65 in attendance and celebrated with a pitch-in lunch, followed by entertainment by the Takin' It Easy Barbershop group, a reader's theatre production by our Calvary Crusader members on the Founding Fathers, a presentation by the War Memorial staff and ended the day with an old-fashioned ice cream social.
If you are an older adult living in the Indianapolis area and would like more information about our quarterly Neighbors In Faith events, please contact: Emily Spelde, Director of Older Adult Ministries (317)783-2000 or email:
