2007-Older Adult Ministries

Our Older Adult Ministry programs are designed for adults ages 50-65 ( Boomers) and 60 and older (Calvary Crusaders)

Lunch 'N Learn- Join us for this ongoing monthly program for Calvary's older adults. Each month we meet for a pitch-in lunch at noon, followed by a program with invited speakers or projects for charity. Our programs are age-appropriate focused on the physical, social and spiritual needs of those we serve in this ministry.

Crusader Lunch Bunch- Once a month, we choose a local restaurant to enjoy lunch together. Everyone is invited and welcome to bring a friend. This is a great opportunity for members to get to know each other better. Everyone is expected to pay their own tab. Please note that in many restaurants there will be a gratuity charge that will be added to your check. This is not uncommon for groups our size, and many times the amount is lower than the social standard. Please be gracious to our hosts and abide by the restaurant's policy.

Monthly Outing Calendar- If you would like to join us on our monthly trips and outings, please access our quarterly calendar of events. You may also pick up your copy on the older adult table located in the church narthex.

Small Group and Volunteer Opportunities:

SMALL GROUP/ BOOMERS &CRUSADERS: Life Writer's Club- We are in the process of collecting stories from childhood, church history and other tales from our older adults. We currently have a small booklet of contributions, but would like to eventually have enough to publish a book of memories for the congregation. If you have stories to tell and would like to find out how to get started, please contact Emily Spelde at 317-783-2000.

SMALL GROUP/BOOMERS &CRUSADERS: Movie Lover's Club- Do you enjoy watching movies? We are now forming a group that would meet during the day to go out to movies at local theatres or host a small movie "club" at their home. Many in our Crusader group have commented that they would love to go to a good matinee, but do not want to go alone. If you would like to be a part of this fun activity, please call Emily Spelde, 786-2566.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:Calvary Lutheran School- We are encouraging our members to volunteer whenever possible with our school children. Opportunities include reading with kids, storytelling, mentoring, driving for field trips, substituting as needed for classroom aides or in any area you feel comfortable in helping out. Many parents both work outside the home and are unable to volunteer hours so desperately needed in the classroom.Our teachers have both short and long-term projects available. Please call the school office at 317-783-2000 ex.222. (A background check of all volunteers is conducted before participation.)

Are you a bookworm? Visit our EPIC center.  Calvary's library collection is growing, and can use volunteers to help set-up book clubs, donate and shelve books and organize the large print book drive for our homebound ministry project. Sandy and Dan Kendall are coordinating efforts and the EPIC Center is showing great improvements. A great place now for book club discussions.

We are collecting large print Christian- themed novels and books for our library. We are planning to organize book clubs and a media exchange project in the fall for our homebound members and Crusaders.We are looking for volunteers to organize the book drive and keep everything cataloged as they come in.

Boomers Dinner Club

Our "Boomers" group is made up of folks too old for the young parents and not old enough for the Crusaders. Some have high school and/or college kids still at home, but not all. Most of our "Boomers" are between the ages of 40-60. Many are still employed and are very involved with church, school and non-profits around the city. We meet socially once a month at a local restaurant for dinner. We invite singles and couples to join us for a great night out! Please watch the weekly bulletin for announcements of time and location. You may also call the church office for updates.
