Accomplishments

by Steve Rensner on May 10, 2022

As we near the conclusion of another school year, we look to all that has been accomplished. Of course, we first identify the academic outlook. Were the Indiana State Standards surpassed? Were the curriculum needs covered? Are the students ready for the demands and requirements of the next grade?

Yet accomplishments are measured far beyond the academics and report cards. Maybe an accomplishment is perfect attendance or not arriving late to school. Maybe it is remembering to wear a Calvary Lutheran polo shirt on chapel days. Another accomplishment might be to climb the monkey bars to the top this year or scoring a goal in soccer. Whatever your goals may have been did you accomplish them?

My older brother set a goal to run a marathon. After successfully accomplishing his goal he heard that a former grade school classmate swam the English Channel. His 26 mile run felt empty and lacking when compared to a 21 mile swim. Comparison took the joy out of his accomplishment. God has gifted everyone with varied abilities and attributes. We are to use His gifts to their fullest potential.

Jesus accomplished much on the cross as he cried, “It is finished.” I am sure that the disciples wondered what had Jesus accomplished? Three years of teaching, preaching, and healing to end in a tomb? On Easter morning it was evident just what Jesus had and continues to accomplish for us. He has defeated death and the devil. He has redeemed us granting to us His very righteousness. Through this accomplishment we have hope and peace.

May God grant to all a spirit open to use the gracious gifts bestowed free from comparison giving to God the glory, honor, and praise.
