Greeting Card Sentiments

CLEARLY SEEING

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”  (1 Corinthians 13:12)

Greeting Card Sentiments

Greeting cards are given for a number of occasions and events. The thoughts and ideas conveyed to the recipient are at most times extremely powerful. I have one drawer in my desk at home that contains select greeting cards received. Most are from family members including my wife, daughters, grandchildren, siblings, parents as well as close friends and co-workers. This past Thanksgiving break I found myself awake early one morning and began cleaning out my desk. I began looking through the cards and the sentiments conveyed. I connected the occasion with the message contained in the card. It was like a walk back in time.

I recently celebrated a profound decade birthday. The cards I received on that day left me feeling inadequate. Maybe because of the decades’ reminders I looked to the past with some regrets. I could have shown more love to better match the words expressed in the greeting cards. I could have been a better husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother throughout the years. I am glad that my family remembers more of the love and care given and received. It makes me desire to more strongly illustrate and show the love that together we share.

Jesus told His disciples that we are to show love one with another. He used the parable referencing the end times as the sheep and goats are separated. He gave examples of this love to share. The disciples asked when did they show this love to Him? The answer: When you did it to the least of my children. God placed us to share His love with others. No one should be excluded from this love. We pray that God equips us with His Spirit to indeed shine this love brightly to others this Advent and Christmas season and throughout the New Year 2020.
