Messaging & Communications

SEE THE GOOD

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

Messaging and Communication

The modes of communication have radically changed over the past 20 years. Going further back in time I can still remember telephone numbers beginning with letters. For some reason I still remember my father’s office number at work- Li9-2177. No area code was needed for local calls. Our home phone was on a party line at first. We were only supposed to answer the phone when we heard a ring tone designated for us. We actually dialed the number as well. To make an overseas call we needed to contact a special operator and then hung up until the operator called back when the call was placed. Push button phones soon followed. Nothing cordless until I was out of high school. No caller Id. No missed calls.

Today the freedom to communicate is vastly different. Cell phones, texting, and emailing are all forms providing instant communication. Many are comfortable utilizing these forms over face to face conversation. Yet what is potentially lost through these commonly used communication modalities?

Communication with God has not changed. He sends to us His Word. We are invited to come to Him in prayer. He sends others to share His Good News. All we need to do is to “dial in” through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our cellphones may need recharging. An email address might be lost. God is always present and eager to hear our prayers.

During this Lenten Season we draw near to the cross of Christ. Through His suffering and death we are restored to His righteousness. God has provided for all our needs. Let us communicate that with one another as we See the Good.
