STAND FIRM

“Be on your guard; STAND FIRM in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love."   (1 Corinthians 16:13)

The Best Way

A variety of illnesses consumed classrooms this week. On Monday, March 4 we had 16% of our K-8 student population absent. While the illness spread across the spectrum of grades, one classroom had 8 students gone while another had perfect attendance. We are told by the medical professionals that hand washing is the best way to avoid getting sick. Our lower grades have poems to recite as hands are washed. Posters are in our cafeteria instructing hand washing before eating and as they are preparing food and serving. Reminders are posted in our restrooms to wash your hands for at least 15 seconds as well. With soap and water we are able to wash many germs away.

We are now in the church season of Lent. Our focus is on the cross. It is through Jesus’ death and resurrection that we are washed clean from our sins. This washing was accomplished as Jesus said, “It is finished.” The empty tomb is the seal of His promise. What joy and peace are ours as we find God’s plan of salvation the best way. God sends us reminders to repent and to turn away from our sins, and to be ready to forgive others when they sin against us. These reminders are in His Word, prayer, and sacraments as His Holy Spirit renews and opens our hearts. We find this reminder in the love of God. God’s blessings to you each day as we STAND FIRM cleansed and washed in His blood.
