The Church Season of Lent

PART of HIS STORY
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

The Church Season of Lent

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. Each calendar year the Season of Lent begins on a different Wednesday. Ash Wednesday begins based on Easter. Lent is 40 days long not counting Sundays. Every Sunday is considered a Resurrection Day. The 40 days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan, and preparing to begin His ministry. This past Sunday the scripture reading was the Temptation of Jesus. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism.

The word Lent is a shortened form of the Old English word “lencten” which refers to lengthening. The days lengthen as spring leads to summer. The days lengthen as we journey through Lent to the joyous Resurrection of Christ on Easter. Sometimes individuals give up something in Lent as a means of self-denial. This Lent we invite you to consider adding something in Lent. We welcome you to worship each Wednesday at 6:30 PM. A daily Bible reading schedule has also been created as we walk the journey through Lent. We are Part of His Story for as Jesus cried “It is Finished” on the cross He bowed His head and died for you and for me. His Resurrection on Easter grants to all that believe eternal life. Connecting. Learning. Caring.
