The Days Grow Shorter

PART of HIS STORY
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

The Days Grow Shorter

People often refer to the Winter Solstice as the shortest day of the year when in fact every day has the same number of hours, minutes, and seconds. We say it is the shortest because in the northern hemisphere from sunrise to sunset is the shortest length of time. The tilt of the earth is the reason for our seasons.

The number of days until Christmas are also growing shorter. 25 days until Christmas. We are in the Church Season of Advent. A season of preparation and hope. The Old Testament prophets foretold the birth of the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled those prophesies. The long-foretold promise of a Savior was heralded to the Shepherds. Their wait was over.

What are you waiting for this Christmas? Many children have made a list of items that they hope will be under the Christmas tree. Perhaps a new bike, a doll, or some other toy. But what are you waiting for this Christmas? Did you make out a Christmas wish? God has fulfilled all our eternal needs through His one and only Son. That is a gift that never breaks, wears out, or doesn’t fit. May we all find God’s love, joy, peace, and hope as we walk our Advent Season journey together.
