Looking through the Lens of Others

SING a LITTLE LOUDER
I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Psalm 108:3–4

Looking through the Lens of Others

Each year our 8th grade literature class reads the acclaimed book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.

Ms. Beach does an awesome job leading the class through the social concepts contained within these chapters. One discussion held between Atticus and his daughter, Scout, was that to really get to know someone you would need to gain their perspective and understanding. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” Scout had made judgements based on the actions of others while not fully understanding their life’s situation.

At the conclusion of the book Scout sees her neighborhood from the Radley front porch. She had gained an insight into the life of a neighbor by taking the time and care to “walk around in their shoes.” We all perceive and see life through the lens of our life and life experiences.

We pray that God would open our eyes to see more clearly the needs of others as we look through a better and more complete understanding of the eyes of another. This does take time as relationships are built. This occurs in the classroom as teachers and students gain perspective into the needs of one another. We thank God for the opportunity that each day brings to share His love with one another building our Calvary Community as we look to the needs of others.

May God continue to bless you each day with His love and grace as we sing a little louder proclaiming our salvation in Him.
