Get Involved

EVERYONE HAS A NEXT STEP. WHAT'S YOURS?

Our church is a place where you can connect to the Heavenly Father and find a home in this family of believers. We share the grace, love and transforming power of Christ with all who enter our doors. Through the ups and downs of life, we are committed to walking this journey together. Our team would love to connect with you and hear more of your story—and help find a place in this family for you.

Membership

Join the Calvary family!

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:12-13a).

We are so glad that you are interested in finding out more about becoming a part of Calvary Lutheran Church and School.  Whatever your faith background, we are excited to come alongside you in your walk with Christ Jesus our Lord. We pray that our ministries will help you grow in your faith through worship, study of God's Word, stewardship, serving others and becoming a part of God the Father’s mission to spread the good news of forgiveness and new life in His Son, Jesus.

We want you to get involved, but more importantly, we want you to feel connected and engaged in God’s mission. Twice a year—typically starting in January and August—we offer a class called “Foundations of Faith” for adults interested in knowing more about and possibly becoming a part of our congregation and its ministries.  This class meets for 6 sessions during the Sunday education hour (9:20 a.m.). For those with children, our nursery is staffed during class time for children under 3 years old and Sunday school classes are available for children preschool (3 year old) through high school.

What is the “Foundations of Faith” class?

The purpose of “Foundations of Faith” class is to:

  • Answer questions you may have about the Christian faith, Calvary, and its ministries
  • Deepen your faith in Christ and His promises
  • Discuss how faith in Jesus applies to your life in practical and helpful ways
  • Strengthen your understanding of the Lutheran Church
  • Meet other new members and Calvary volunteers, making new connections to our community

Upon completing the class, there is no obligation to become a member of Calvary, but those desiring to do so will be received into membership during a Sunday morning service along with a special new member breakfast preceding the worship service.

If you have any questions or desire to become a member or to be a part of one of these classes, please fill out the form below, or contact Kara Hiatt at 317-783-2000. You are also able to share your contact information and interest in becoming a member in the red Fellowship Pad at the end of each aisle at our weekly worship services.

Confirmation

Passing on the Faith

“So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,  but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).

What is Confirmation?

Youth Confirmation is a public rite of the Church that is preceded by a period of instruction designed to help young baptized Christians make a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and identify with the life and mission of the Christian community. This public profession of faith is made on Confirmation Sunday along with the other youth of one’s confirmation class.

Why is it called Head-to-Heart (H2H) Confirmation?

We want our young disciples to know the Gospel and teachings of Christianity (head) and believe it so that they trust Christ with their lives and find their place of service in His name (heart).

Calvary’s confirmation instruction follows a process of two years, normally occurring during a student’s 7th and 8th grade. Member children of Calvary should enroll, as well as children whose parents are in the process of joining Calvary. We also welcome other students who want to participate.

In order to provide the best environment for connection and growth, H2H focuses on teaching students in the 7th and 8th grade (or above). If you have children of a similar age and desire both to attend H2H at the same time, we encourage you to consider starting your older child a year later.

When does Head-to-Heart Meet?

Head-to-Heart meets on Sundays during the school year. Our usual meeting follows this schedule:

45 minutes for large group teaching by a Pastor or Youth Director

40 minutes for small group gathering with Adult Mentors

5 minutes for a large group closing and prayer

Contact the church office at 317-783-2000 to discuss questions you may have or to enroll your child.

Our School

Preschool – Grade 8

Welcome to Calvary Lutheran School! CLS has served Indianapolis’ Southside community for more than 60 years.  We are nestled in a community setting on 15+ acres of land.  Founded in 1950, our school’s originators sought to provide high quality, Christ-centered education for the children in our community.  Today, we continue that mission and include an emphasis on incorporating families, teachers, and students to foster academic excellence, integrity, and compassion as our students develop into their full potential.

Calvary provides a caring environment, treating your child as our own, and offering a wide array of opportunities for growth both academically and spiritually.  We are also proud to offer a variety of athletics and extracurricular activities.

We invite you to come and meet us! We are happy to take you on a tour of our facilities, meet our teachers and staff, and learn more about becoming a member of Calvary’s family.  Please feel free to contact our Admissions Counselor any time at (317) 783-2305, or just stop by and we’ll be happy to meet with you!

Prayer

Request Prayers and Pray for Others

At Calvary, we believe in the power of prayer!

Pray continually... (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

We encourage you to pray — for yourself, for one another, for our community, our nation and our world. Please visit our Prayer Page to request prayers and to lift one another up in prayer.
