Reliance

During each day what are somethings that you rely on? First and foremost, maybe the alarm clock. For some the coffee maker. Your vehicle thundering to life. Others may reference the government. Still others may cite their bank accounts. But one of today’s most relied upon objects is our cellphones. Over this past weekend I used my cellphone to guide my path to a location that I had never been to before. I did no preliminary seeking directions prior to simply entering the address in the map app and heading out on my 45-minute journey. To my dismay, I realized that my cellphone had very little battery life remaining as I was already on my trek. I had placed all my reliance on the cell phone to guide me to this location. What if the phone “died?” I could not even call for help. At this point I realized how and when we place our reliance on the things of this world as we walk and plan each day. I was totally dependent upon the cell phone to guide me where I needed to be. The question is asked again- Where and to what do you place your reliance? As we plan each day, we are unable to fully perceive and to look beyond the present. Our schedules might be laid out and ordered, but we never know exactly what the future holds. As God’s people, He desires that we place our reliance upon Him. God is an ever -present help in trouble. He knows our needs and well provides them. He invites us to first seek His Kingdom. He opens our hearts to pray to Him. He grants to us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. His “batteries” never run out or need recharging.

The good news is that I successfully reached my destination prior to the cell phone closing. Not owning a car charging device for my cell phone is now on my priority list to obtain. Yet this further taught me that God is our only true reliance. He loves each of us and never will forsake us. May God grant to you the full hope and assurance that He is always near as He invites us to come to Him in full confidence and reliance.
