The Debate Continues

Our God Is…
“God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to
the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14

On Sunday morning at 2:00AM the clocks get pushed back one hour. Daylight saving time ends on November 2. Yes, we all get that “extra hour” of sleep, and the clocks need to be corrected, but what else does this mean? The mornings will become lighter earlier while the afternoons will darken sooner. So, if you are an early riser this time of year will be a blessing. But if you are one that likes to be outside after work or school get ready for an earlier sunset. Each year the debate continues about daylight saving time and should Indiana return to years ago when we did not change times. Indiana is the furthest eastern standard time zone state. Parts of Indiana reside in the central time zone. That is why on the 4th of July we cannot shoot off the fireworks until 10:00PM. The timing of the SUN rise-SUN set are altered twice each year in Indiana.

Martin Luther faced a much more significant debate. His debate focused on the truth of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit opened Luther’s heart to grasp the freedom of salvation that is ours through Christ’s death and resurrection. It is won through faith alone, grace alone, and scripture alone all fulfilled in Christ alone. This debate reached a climax as Luther posted his 95 Theses on the church door in Wittenberg inviting others to discuss and search the scriptures for God’s truth. Luther was not trying to divide the church, but only to strength it through the proper teaching of the Bible and God’s plan of salvation. He was bold and courageous standing on biblical teachings. He professed that the only way to Heaven as our eternal home is through Christ. Today that debate continues. Some teach and profess that there are other ways to secure eternal life with God. Others don’t believe that God even exists. Some philosophies are based on work and goodness to earn one’s salvation. All the other avenues forsake the teaching truths of God’s Word. For those the SON has already set.

It is time for God’s people to urgently proclaim His Word of truth and the Good News of His Gospel message. This message is in season for all people no matter what time it is currently. We are privileged each day to share this message with one another. Ephesian 2:8-9 has been our morning Bible verse of the week. It echoes the Reformation foundation that all is accomplished through Christ alone. Happy Reformation Day – October 31.
