Divine Revelations

Passage: Mark 6:45-56

Preacher: Pastor Kurt Ebert

Series: Pentecost

Category: Calvary Lutheran Church

Keywords: faith, trust, hope, promise, disbelief, divine

Summary

Whenever we hear the account of Jesus walking on water, we immediately think of Peter’s request to join him on the water. We thereby turn this miracle into just another reminder that “we” need to have more faith and that “we” need to be willing to step out in trust. The Gospel of Mark, however, doesn’t include Peter’s adventures at all. So, what does this miracle mean for our lives today, if Peter’s not even in the picture? What is significant about the fact that Jesus’ own disciples seem to have less understanding than the nameless crowds that seek him afterwards? Do we recognize Jesus for who he really is or do we constantly sell him short for our own personal constructions of him?
