Fear and Great Joy!

Passage: Matthew 28:1-10

Preacher: Pastor Kurt Ebert

Series: Easter

Category: Calvary Lutheran Church

Keywords: easter, resurrection, hope, joy, fear, peace, empty tomb

Summary

We don’t typically associate Easter with fear, worry, sadness, sorrow, and feelings of isolation. At least we typically don’t associate those with our regular celebrations of it. Yet, these feelings that many are experiencing this year amid the COVID-19 outbreak actually reflect what many of the earliest disciples were experiencing on the first Easter. The resurrection of Jesus, however, breaks into their lives and proclaims a promise that will change their whole perspectives. While fear may abide in a world that is broken by sin, ‘great joy’ has entered our lives through the resurrection (Matt 28:8). As Jesus invites us this Easter to come and see the evidence of his love, he also urges us to take this opportunity this Easter to go and tell the wonderful news of Jesus.
