Sermon by Pastor Kurt Ebert from our worship service on August 6, 2023 • 10th Sunday after Pentecost • based on Matthew 14:13–21. When is a miracle not just a miracle? It has been a long season of ministry for Jesus and the disciples. They all could use a little break, especially as they mourn the death of John the Baptist. And yet as another long day of ministry draws to a close, it is only the disciples who are ready to send the crowds away. Instead, Jesus challenges the disciples to give the crowd something to eat, so that they don’t have go away. The disciples aren’t prepared for what is about to happen. So, what does this miracle say about Jesus? What does this miracle say about us?
