Resting in the Depths of God’s Love

Passage: Jeremiah 17:1-9

Preacher: Pastor Kurt Ebert

Series: Epiphany

Category: Calvary Lutheran Church

Keywords: depths, faith, god's grace, jacob, jeremiah

Summary

Jeremiah invites us today to wrestle with the condition of the heart. He presents two pictures of faith--faith in human strength (ours or others) or faith in the Lord. The former is a matter of striving and stress that leaves us high and dry. The latter is a matter of joy and flourishing. We see this contrast clearly on display in the person of Jacob (Genesis 25-49). Much of his life Jacob sought by his own strength to establish his blessing, yet we only flourish when we rest in the depths of God's grace. It took a lifetime for Jacob to learn the true meaning of resting in the Lord's promise and grace.
