When the Rules Don’t Apply

Passage: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13

Preacher: Pastor Kurt Ebert

Series: Oh, That the Lord Would Guide My Ways

Category: Calvary Lutheran Church

Keywords: love, wisdom, service, trust, freedom, gospel, pride, humility, fear, kindness, knowledge

Summary

The header for Paul’s 8th chapter in his letter to the Corinthians doesn’t inspire great hope for addressing contemporary life, as it reads, “Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols.” We might ask, “What does that have to do with our lives today?” While the context may have changed, the underlying question still remains in our own lives. How do we live out our Christian faith? How do we live when the “rules” don’t apply? How do we live when our “freedoms” can cause hurt or harm to the faith and life of another? How do we live in light of the grace and forgiveness of Christ?
